The mind thinks in pictures first of all

Symbols are very powerful:
as the old saying goes, a picture says a thousand words.

SYMBOLS

Symbols are a powerful visual language and contain ideas that stretch far beyond the immediate representation we see. They stimulate the imagination and represent a whole idea or series of ideas; designed to tap into feelings of worth through association.

Symbols are very powerful: as the old saying goes, a picture says a thousand words. It is the intricate matrix of emotions and feeling that is enlivened by a symbol and connects it to your Inner Self. This connection highlights your own truth that you receive from the symbol used.

Symbols are everywhere - from the Nike logo on those trainers and clothing, to the Jaguar symbol representing cutting edge motorcar technology. Symbols are used around us all the time in everyday life, from instructions in how to use a new appliance, to signs in foreign airports.

Symbols are in adverts all over the place. It's estimated that the average person sees approximately 3,000 advertising messages per day. Ads in magazines, billboards, newspapers, television, bus, internet, computer screens, in the waiting room of a doctor's or dentist's, on a phone card, lottery ticket, toilets, every day we see ads all over the place. There are ads almost everywhere imaginable.

Swoosh - Nike Corporate Logo

There must be very few people who do not recognize the Nike Just Do it logo. With a big arsenal of superstars such as Michael Jordan, LeBron James, Andre Agassi, Shane Warne, Maria Sharapova, Venus and Serena Williams. This list is pretty long. The company takes its name from the Greek goddess of victory, Nike. The popular Swoosh logo is a graphic design created by Carolyn Davidson in 1971 for $35.

The logo represents the wing of the Greek Goddess. The Nike logo is a classic case of a company gradually simplifying its corporate identity as its frame increases. The company's first logo appeared in 1971, when the word "Nike," the Greek goddess of victory, was printed in orange over the outline of a checkmark, the sign of a positive mark. Used as a motif on sports shoes since the 1970s, this checkmark is now so recognizable that the company name itself has became superfluous.

The solid corporate logo design check was registered as a trademark in 1995. The Nike logo design is an abstract wing, designed by Carolyn Davidson, was an appropriate and meaningful symbol for a company that marketed running shoes. The "JUST DO IT" slogan and logo design campaign communicated such a strong point of view to their target market that the meaning for the logo design symbol evolved into a battle cry and the way of life for an entire generation. Isn't it amazing how a small symbol we call a logo design can make a company into a huge success

The Nike logo is a registered trademark of Nike. Use of the logo here does not imply endorsement of the organization by this site.

Symbols are objects, characters, figures, sounds or colors used to represent abstract ideas or concepts. A symbol, in its basic sense, is a conventional representation of a concept; i.e., an idea, object, quality, quantity, etc. In more psychological and philosophical terms, all concepts are symbolic in nature, and representations for these concepts are simply token artifacts that are allegorical to (but do not directly codify) a symbolic meaning, or symbolism.

From the most general systemics perspective, as used on maps, a symbol is a communication means: it is a graphical, written, vocal or other physical object which, usually in a syntetic sense, is used to the representation of another, more complex, physical or abstract object, or an object property. It is also used in various metaphoric notions.

Fundamental application domain of symbols are languages, mathematics and cognitive sciences.

Spoken language, for example, consists of distinct auditory tokens for representing symbolic concepts (words), arranged in an order which further suggests their meaning.

Three Lions of England

The England national football team symbol

What is the meaning of this symbol? It's open for debate. There are many theories.

The Coat of Arms which was used by England upon King Richard I accession to the throne, a symbol of the English Monarchy. Today it is used in football as the symbol for the English national team.

2002 England Design One Pound Coin

It was decided that from 1984, British £1 coins would feature different reverse designs for each of the four parts of the United Kingdom. All £1 coins dated 2002 feature on the reverse three lions symbolising England.

Three Lions
The one pound coin for 2002 represents England with a reverse depicting the Royal Crest of England, for centuries the proud emblem of English Kings and Queens, as previously used on the pound coins of 1997. The 1997 pound uses the third portrait, while the 2002 uses the newer fourth portrait introduced in 1998. It is thought that the three lions may have come to England from Normandy but it was Richard the Lionheart (1189 - 1199) who, especially during the Crusades, used the three golden lions on their scarlet background as a powerful symbol of the English Throne. The Crest appeared on his second Great Seal and thereafter three lions passant guardant have been known as "England". As such, the Crest has appeared on the Royal Arms of every succeeding monarch and, today, is even employed to represent England in the sporting world.

The Swastika

swastika
Above - the Swastika as Hitler and others used it.

Swastika or Sun Wheel an ancient religious symbol used long before Hitler came to power. It was used in Buddhist inscriptions, Celtic monuments and Greek coins. In sun god worship, it is supposed to represent the sun's course in the heavens.

This well recognized sign was a part of the Hitler regime, the Nazi's. The Ku Klux Klan wears this symbol for pure hatred against any other race, except the white race. "Skin heads" that bear this mark, symbolise the belief in the Nazi's, and the whole Hitler agenda and that the white race is the only true race.

The word swastika comes from the Sanskrit svastika - sv meaning good, asti meaning to be, and ka a suffix. While it is natural to think the Swastika originates from deep within some Nazi advertising agency, created to strike fear and terror throughout the world, it is in fact thousands of years old, previously a talisman of power, good luck, and strength.

Flower of Life

The Flower of Life is a geometrical figure composed of multiple evenly-spaced, overlapping circles, that are arranged so that they form a flower-like pattern with a six-fold symmetry like a hexagon. In other words, the center of each circle is on the circumference of six surrounding circles of the same diameter.

The Temple of Osiris at Abydos, Egypt contains the oldest to date example. it is carved in granite and may possibly represent the Eye of Ra a symbol of the authority of the pharaoh.

Other examples can be found in Phoenician, Assyrian, Indian, Asian, Middle Eastern, and medieval art.

A Flower of Life pattern can be constructed with a pen, compass and paper, by creating multiple series of interlinking circles. In some renditions, the rosette on the unofficial flag of Padania is a partial version of the "flower of life" pattern.

The Flower of Life pattern contains the basis of Metatron's Cube. From this pattern, all five of the Platonic solids can be derived.
